Centre sunburst motif neck ring from Sind, Pakistan

A very unusual piece of silver jewelry that is done by fusing four strips of hammered and chiselled silver strips to form a beautiful crescent shape neck ring. It is overlaid with a sunburst centre medaillon and two smaller ones on each side.  Strings are tied to the back of the semi S-ring at the terminals to prevent it from falling off the neck.

Sindhi solid silver neck ring

Rajasthani neck ring with bells

A superbe and elaborate silver neck ring covered with stamped-die silver pieces resembling flower buds and petals set in green and red glass stones. The centre square section is highlighted with a gold plated chiselled silver piece with a flower on it. Right below it are bells and chains supended from a row of twenty one flower discs. It tapers to a bird at the terminals.

Gujarati neck ring

The workmanship of this neck ring is very different from the usual chiselling, hammered and adhered silver pieces. The opening is an opened centre silver disc set in red and green glass stones and has a permanent hook with a ball at the end. The other side has a similar hook that opens and closes like a spring. They are both tapered and perfectly binded with silver strips and silver wire.

Gold sheet wrapped silver neck ring. Sind Pakistan 1930's

The process of making this neck ring is very unique. A piece of flat gold sheet is firstly hammered out, punched and incised. It is then neatly folded around a long solid silver rod, after which the desired round shape would made up two third of the neck ring. The top part which is engraved with characters is then added on with a hinge and pin closure decorated with tiny silver balls. Indigo pigment is then rubbed onto the recessed design.

Gold sheet wrapped solid silver neck ring. Sind Pakistan 1930's

The steps for creating this piece is a step more than the flat surface ones. The gold sheet of a high gold content, 3cm by 26 cm is pressed, beaten and chiseled on a mold. It is then wrapped around a straight solid silver rod and then forming a round shape. Purer gold is malleable and can be beaten and pressed without breaking or cracking.There are some traces of indigo pigment.
